The Military Band-Aid Softball Tournament is the second largest military softball tournament in the world

Who we are

The Military Band-Aid Softball Tournament is the second largest military softball tournament in the world, and is hosted in the beautiful city of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Being ranked as one of the top three military towns as well as being centrally located within the continental United States, it is just a natural fit for the tournament to continuously be hosted within the city.

The tournament was created specifically for medical personnel within the various military branches and was very successful and continuously grew year after year. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s participation in the tournament had begun to decrease due to increased deployments of military personnel and the decrease in participation led to the invitation of first responders in 2003 which incorporated security forces and firefighters. In 2007 the tournament was finally opened to all military varsity teams, and was the turning point of the tournament.

What We do

The event currently hosts over 90 teams spanning from across the globe and consists of over 600 military members, veterans, and DOD civilians, as well as their families. The tournament schedules over 200 games on 8 different fields at 2 separate complexes within the Colorado Springs area. On top of the Military Band-Aid Softball tournament, we also play host to a variety of other events over the four days such as a golf tournament, over 40’s softball tournament, along with the Pikes Peak national invitational softball tournament.

Camaraderie

The military lifestyle allows individuals to have friends all over the world. We move constantly throughout our career, as we make new friends and sometimes run into old ones. For over 20 years now, we have reunited these friends/coworkers/ball-players for good, competitive fun and camaraderie. We hope to continue the tradition for many years to come.

History

of Band-Aid Tournament

The Annual Military Band-Aid Softball Tournament

The inaugural Band-Aid Tournament was held at the United States Air Force Academy in 1989. It was the idea of the late Clyde Maddox and Dave Miles, both of whom were medics at the 10th Medical Group, USAFA. They wanted to have a tournament that was specifically for medical personnel, hoping to attract medical teams from around the country. Their idea was to provide an opportunity to play a lot of softball at a cheap price. They also wanted the tournament to be competitive in nature, and most importantly have fun. It was a huge success for many years under that format. However, in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s, participation started to decrease due to increased deployments of medical personnel. That led us to extend our invitation to “First Responders” incorporating Security Forces and Firefighters in 2003. In 2006, we had several Military Varsity teams from around the country calling, to ask if they could participate in our tournament. In 2007, we decided to try it and we haven’t looked back. The Band-Aid tournament has evolved into one of the biggest and best military tournaments in the nation. The 2014 Band-Aid tournament hosted 37 total teams which was second only to the USSSA Military Worlds tournament in Panama City Beach, Florida. Many of the Military Varsity coaches regard the Band-Aid tournament as the “Pre-World Tournament.” It is, without a doubt, one of the premier military tournaments in the country.
